70% of Microsoft's AI Revenue Comes from OpenAI, Clients Concentrated in the Tech Industry
Microsoft's AI business primarily serves technology companies, with approximately 70% of its AI revenue, amounting to $24.1 billion, coming from OpenAI in the most recent fiscal year. Major clients of Azure AI include ByteDance, Meta, Adobe, Perplexity, Sierra, as well as Ant Group, Meituan, and Tencent. ByteDance's annual spending on Microsoft's cloud platform is expected to exceed $1 billion, while Meta spends hundreds of millions annually. Although Microsoft has disclosed that its AI model market has around 100,000 clients, the majority of revenue remains concentrated among a few large tech and AI companies, indicating that AI has not yet achieved widespread commercial application in broader economic sectors.
