Average Diesel Price in the U.S. Reaches $5.69 per Gallon
On September 2, the average retail price of diesel fuel in the U.S. rose to $5.69 per gallon ($1.50 per liter), marking the highest level since April. The current price is close to the record of $5.82 per gallon set in June 2022. Prices are being influenced by market disruptions due to conflicts in the Middle East and the war in Ukraine, as well as a reduction in Russian exports. Goldman Sachs warns of tightness in the diesel market as attacks on oil refineries have reduced global capacity. American plants are operating at nearly maximum capacity, but diesel inventories remain low. Demand may increase in the fall due to harvest season and the start of the heating season. U.S. President Donald Trump has called for an increase in diesel and gasoline production to lower prices at the pump. In Ukraine, wholesale diesel prices range from 84.70 to 86 UAH/l, which also affects the retail market.
