Codex Weekly Users Reach 5 Million as OpenAI Expands Work Agent
OpenAI is expanding ChatGPT as a work agent, shifting the focus of the artificial intelligence (AI) competition from model performance to actual workplace adoption rates. ChatGPT Work offers features that connect with Slack, Microsoft Teams, Google Drive, and more to generate documents and presentations. OpenAI has announced that Codex has surpassed 5 million weekly users, with over 1 million using it for tasks outside of software development. The proportion of Codex output from corporate clients is increasing, and the top 10% of user companies generate 8.3 times more output tokens per active user than average companies. While the internal usage rate of Codex at OpenAI exceeds 95%, the adoption gap is significant, with organizational accounts at about 17% and personal accounts at less than 1%. As the work agent gains access to various apps like email and Slack, convenience increases, but so does the management burden. OpenAI emphasizes the importance of admin privileges and connection tool limitations, stating that mere feature releases will not lead to widespread adoption.
