Curve Finance founder Michael Egorov criticized Pump.fun and the Phantom wallet within the Solana ecosystem, describing Pump.fun as a "scam casino" and noting that Phantom's hardware wallet connection experience is inferior to that of MetaMask. Egorov pointed out that a large number of speculative tokens on Pump.fun may have fraudulent characteristics. He believes that despite the Solana Foundation's strong support for the ecosystem, some leading applications have failed to reflect the capabilities of the underlying network. In response, ClawPump co-founder Tomi204 countered that Pump.fun merely provides infrastructure, and how users utilize it should be determined by the market, emphasizing that there is genuine demand for memecoin trading and that Phantom is more suitable for ordinary users in mobile and Web3 scenarios. Despite the controversy, Pump.fun continues to see high trading volume, with weekly revenues around $12 million and total earnings exceeding $1.2 billion since the beginning of 2024, with revenue sources including token trading fees, graduation fees, and PumpSwap. Meanwhile, Pump.fun faces a class-action lawsuit and federal extortion charges, with additional reports alleging issues such as leaked internal chat records and MEV bots extracting liquidity.
