DeepSeek Flash Price Increase Leads to Over 50% Drop in Daily Token Consumption
Since the launch of DeepSeek V4 Flash on August 1, daily token consumption surged from approximately 30 trillion to 180 trillion, a sixfold increase, nearing the daily processing volume of OpenRouter across all platforms. Its pricing is set at 1/350 of Fable, 1/175 of GPT-5.6 Sol, and 1/70 of Claude Sonnet, making it a cost-effective AI option. On August 16, DeepSeek raised peak hour prices by five times (2.5 times during off-peak hours), resulting in a drop of over 50% in daily token consumption from its peak. OpenCode CEO Jay V stated that the price increase was a passive response to rising GPU costs. Currently, OpenCode is seeking suppliers who can handle traffic at the original price, requiring about 1,000 B300 units to support current demand. DeepSeek Flash has exposed the challenges in the AI model market.
