Foreign Investors Net Sold Over 12 Trillion Won of Korean Stocks in July, KOSPI Index Drops Over 19%
From July 1 to 16, foreign investors net sold 12.1022 trillion won in the KOSPI market and 338.1 billion won in the KOSDAQ market. During the same period, the KOSPI index fell from 8,476.48 points on June 30 to 6,820.60 points. In contrast to the stock market, foreign investors net bought 593.7 billion won in Korean ETFs, including a net purchase of 195 billion won in the KODEX Leverage ETF, 180.6 billion won in the KODEX 200, and 130 billion won in the KODEX 200 Futures Inverse 2x ETF. The simultaneous purchases of products tracking the KOSPI 200 and inverse ETFs by foreign investors are interpreted as portfolio adjustments in a high-volatility market rather than one-sided bets. In terms of individual stock leverage ETFs, foreign investors net bought 22.7 billion won in products related to Samsung Electronics but net sold 122.1 billion won in products related to SK Hynix. Additionally, foreign investors net bought 102 billion won in the U.S. Philadelphia Semiconductor Index ETF and 62.7 billion won in the U.S. Nasdaq 100 Daily Target Covered Call Strategy ETF.
