Risk Warning: I am not a licensed financial advisor. This article is based on publicly available information and risk disclosures, and does not constitute a promise of returns or personalized investment advice. On-chain Minting, placing orders, authorizations, transactions, and TapeOut may have irreversible consequences. Please only use funds and wallet permissions that you can afford to lose entirely for testing.

Most people entering TapeOut for the first time will first look at prices, check the market, and ask which "chip" is worth Minting.

    I suggest the opposite.

First, see if it can do something, and then decide if you want to own its components. Because TapeOut is often misunderstood as a more complex trading page; its truly different aspect is that you can connect NAND and LATCH into logic, run it in the browser, and then TapeOut the components into an on-chain circuit.

This article is not teaching you which asset to rush into. It only provides you with the smallest, verifiable, and least risky path: first understand the processor, then try Minting or the order book on a very small scale, and finally run a minimal circuit.

    1. Preparation: Don't Start a Chain Experiment with Your Main Wallet

Enter https://tapeout.net/ in your mobile wallet and switch to the BNB Smart Chain mainnet. Keep a small amount of $BNB in your wallet for gas; if you want to Mint or place a buy order, you will also need additional $BNB to cover the Mint amount or escrow amount displayed on the page.

Do not interpret "connect wallet" as an action without consequences. The connection itself usually does not transfer funds, but subsequent Minting, placing orders, authorizations, selling, and TapeOut require different types of signatures. More importantly, the official website currently clearly states that the protocol is in an upgradable phase, with plans to seal in the future; therefore, any claims of long-term immutability or absolute trustlessness should not replace your own verification.

For first-time users, it is advisable to create a separate experimental wallet with only a small amount of $BNB. The truly mature way to participate is not to sign many transactions at once, but to first confirm that you can explain what each signature actually changes.

    2. Step One: Choose the Processor First, Don't Look for the One with the Biggest Price Increase

The basic unit of TapeOut is not a globally unified Token. Each processor has its own component supply and circuit ecosystem; users can Mint NAND or LATCH under that processor and use the corresponding components for canvases and TapeOut.

The processor detail page usually displays the name, creator, total component supply, minted amount, number of Mint addresses, number of holders, created circuits, and Mint controls. When entering for the first time, read these fields before clicking "connect wallet."

Figure 1|Snapshot of Genesis CPU detail page, accessed on 2026-08-17 (GMT+8). This is an example of a fully minted processor; the interface showing Mint controls does not indicate that there is still Mintable capacity.

This screenshot is particularly worth examining closely. The Genesis CPU shows a total supply and minted amount of 10,000,000 at that time; therefore, whether the button is still visible on the page is not evidence of whether you can Mint. The real judgment order should be: what is the total supply, how much has been minted, are you choosing NAND or LATCH, what is the unit price and total payment, and does the processor really have what you want to do.

"Official," "Genesis," and "Free" are not safety labels. They are at most attributes, not risk disclaimers.

    3. Step Two: When There is Remaining Supply, the Correct Way to Mint is "Small, Slow, and Verifiable"

If the processor you choose still has Mintable supply, the detail page will allow you to choose NAND or LATCH and then enter the quantity. The official website states that the Mint price for a single processor is set at creation; some may be 0 $BNB, meaning "free Mint, only gas costs," but this is not a universal rule for all processors and all times.

The first Mint does not require any complex strategies. Just follow the order below:

Minting does not mean "buying TapeOut." What you obtain is a type of component under a specific processor. This determines where it trades in the market, what type of TapeOut it can be used for, and whether you have the necessary NAND/LATCH combination to complete a certain circuit later.

If you don't understand why the processor has two types of components, it doesn't prevent you from learning first. But this is precisely why you should only Mint the minimum quantity, rather than mistaking a single transaction as a bet on the entire project.

    4. Step Three: When Fully Minted, the Market is an Order Book, Not a One-Click Buy Button

If the processor is fully minted, the official website provides an independent market split by "Processor × NAND / LATCH." Buyers enter the price and quantity they are willing to pay, and $BNB enters escrow according to the page logic; sellers choose an existing buy order, enter a quantity not exceeding their remaining amount, and sell. The official market page indicates that a 1% fee is charged for transactions and that the first sale will require authorization of the market contract.

Figure 2|Snapshot of the market order book interface, accessed on 2026-08-17 (GMT+8). The prices, 24-hour changes, order volumes, and transaction numbers shown in the figure are all dynamic data snapshots and do not constitute executable prices or profit hints.

The most common mistake here is interpreting the most prominent "latest price" on the screen as the price you can execute immediately. In early, low-depth, fragmented markets, even a very small transaction can create exaggerated price fluctuations; what truly determines whether you can execute is the price, remaining amount, and escrow status of a specific buy order in the order book.

    |------|-----------------------|--------------------------------| | Action | What Happens on the Page | What You Need to Confirm | | Place Buy Order | Enter BNB price and quantity, page calculates total escrow | Is the total escrow BNB within acceptable limits; how will funds be handled if the order is not executed | | Sell to Buy Order | Enter a quantity not exceeding balance for the selected buy order | Remaining quantity of the buy order, total amount, and 1% fee | | First Sale | Wallet requests authorization for the market contract | Is the authorized entity the official public market contract; is the amount too large | | Transaction Confirmation | Wallet returns transaction hash, waiting for on-chain confirmation | Verify the status on the block explorer, not just look at the front-end prompt |

If you don't understand the order book, don't place an order. If you don't understand the total amount, don't sign. On-chain transactions are not an exam; there is no need to rush to answer.

    5. Step Four: Truly "Playing" TapeOut is Making a Minimal Circuit on the Canvas

Enter https://tapeout.net/#canvas. The canvas provides input/output pins, constants, NAND, LATCH, as well as examples of 4-bit addition, 8-bit addition, 8-bit multiplication, and 4-bit CPU. The right side will display the number of gates at this layer, timing units, netlist bytes, and the number of components required for TapeOut.

Figure 3|Snapshot of the official canvas, accessed on 2026-08-17 (GMT+8). The right side shows self-check, component consumption, netlist, and target processor address input; be sure to verify each item before TapeOut.

For the first time, do not start drawing from scratch. Choose the smallest example and first observe how the inputs and outputs change. At this point, you do not need a wallet or to purchase any components; just understand: how the input enters NAND, how the output is calculated, and why the right side shows "transistors will be consumed."

When you are ready to TapeOut, only then do you enter the real on-chain action. The official website states that TapeOut will consume the corresponding components and generate the circuit; after connecting the wallet, if you have created a processor, the target processor address will automatically fill in your processor; otherwise, it defaults to the official TapeOut, and users can manually rewrite it.

This means that before TapeOut, you must clarify at least the following four sentences:

TapeOut is not "saving a draft." It is a transaction that will change your asset status. The correct way to get started is to only do the smallest example and consume the least components.

    6. Step Five: After TapeOut, Don't Just Look at the NFT Number; Try to Call It

The official processor detail page of TapeOut describes the circuit as an on-chain function that can be read for free. Combinational logic can be queried through eval(circuitId, bytes), and circuits containing timing units can be called using step; the official website also provides examples of BscScan Read Contract, command line, and ethers.js.

So the complete closed loop should not be:

    But should be:

Even if you don't write code, you can first use BscScan's Read Contract. It is a read-only query, does not require a transaction, and usually does not require a wallet connection. Do not enter Write Contract without understanding the meaning of the function, and do not directly copy a contract address from an external tutorial into the wallet confirmation page.

    7. Don't Misinterpret the "On-chain BTC Miner" Demonstration

The TapeOut official website also has a page titled "Real On-chain BTC Miner Made Based on TapeOut." Its public explanation is very clear: the real-time SHA 256d computation stream runs locally on the backend; the on-chain part is a verifiable single-round SHA-256 circuit that can be called 64 times for free in the browser to reproduce the standard SHA-256 result.

This is a visually appealing demonstration of "verifiable logic," but it is not an entry point for ordinary users to earn Bitcoin mining rewards. Do not transfer to this page, and do not assume you are participating in mining just because the page shows hash power, block height, and leading zeros.

The project team separates "real-time execution" from "on-chain verifiability," which is precisely the most respectable aspect of this page. When looking at on-chain projects, clearly defining boundaries is more challenging and valuable than labeling everything as on-chain.

    8. Last Ten Seconds: Before Signing Each Time, Ask Yourself Once

    |---------------|-----------------------------------| | Question | Only if answered clearly, is it worth continuing | | Am I on the official website? | I manually entered tapeout.net, not following a stranger's private message or advertisement link. | | Am I on the correct network? | BNB Smart Chain mainnet. | | What am I signing? | Mint, place buy order, authorize, sell, or TapeOut; their consequences are completely different. | | How much am I paying or escrowing? | I have checked the total BNB amount, gas, and any escrow amounts in my wallet. | | What is the target contract? | I cross-verified from the official website and block explorer, not just looking at truncated addresses. | | Can it be revoked? | Minting, transactions, and TapeOut usually cannot be revoked; TapeOut will also consume components. | | If everything goes to zero, can I accept it? | If not, it indicates that the amount, permissions, or actions are not suitable for me right now. |

If you have completed the minimal path in this article and truly understood the closed loop of "components---TapeOut---circuit---call," you are already closer to TapeOut than most people who only look at K-lines.

Whether to continue participating is your own choice. At least do not turn an interesting on-chain logic class into a tuition fee paid due to not clearly seeing the pop-up window.
