macOS Screen Sharing Vulnerability Fixed, Upgrade to Version 26.6.1 Recommended

The macOS screen sharing feature has a serious security vulnerability (CVE-2026-65400) that allows attackers to remotely log into a computer using any account without a password while screen sharing is enabled. Apple has fixed this vulnerability in macOS version 26.6.1, and all Mac users are urged to upgrade as soon as possible. Researchers have reverse-engineered the vulnerability, identifying its root cause and exploitation methods, and have released proof-of-concept code. The vulnerability has been rated as "Critical," meaning attackers could gain complete control of the desktop, making it one of the most severe security vulnerabilities in desktop operating systems. There is currently no evidence that this vulnerability is being widely exploited, but the public availability of the proof-of-concept code increases the risk for unpatched systems. If users cannot upgrade immediately, it is recommended to disable the screen sharing feature as a temporary mitigation measure before upgrading.
