Medicines Delivered by Drones, 60,000 Packages in Two Regions
In two regions of Ukraine, medicines have been delivered by drones as part of the "Affordable Medicines" program. A total of 60,000 packages of medications have been handed over to patients. Mykhailo Radutskyi, the Chairman of the Committee on National Health Issues, stated that such deliveries are essential for remote villages and frontline communities where pharmacies may be absent or delivery is difficult. The drone delivery process includes: issuing an electronic prescription by a family doctor, transferring the prescription number to the pharmacist, redeeming the prescription at the pharmacy, packaging the medication in a box labeled with the patient's name, and delivering it by drone to the nearest outpatient clinic or health post. Radutskyi emphasized the importance of physical access to medicines for remote settlements. "Ukrposhta" delivers medicines to 26,000 settlements; however, traditional logistics have limitations for deliveries to remote villages. The reimbursement program "Affordable Medicine" has been expanded to include 260 trade names of medications for the treatment of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, of which 173 will be provided free of charge, and 87 with a partial co-payment.
