Poland incurred losses of over 490 billion zlotys due to the war in Ukraine
Poland incurred losses of more than 490 billion zlotys (approximately 113.5 billion euros) due to the war in Ukraine from 2022 to 2025, which amounts to about 3.5% of its nominal GDP. Households suffered the most, with losses of 292.1 billion zlotys (67 billion euros), while losses for businesses totaled 126 billion zlotys (29 billion euros), and the government and self-governing sector faced losses of 72 billion zlotys (16.5 billion euros). The construction sector saw a decline in gross added value estimated at 120.9 billion zlotys (27.94 billion euros). At the same time, there has been an increase in prices for construction materials such as steel, cement, glass, asphalt, and plastics. The total amount of losses takes into account aid to Ukraine, changes in the labor market, economic and demographic consequences, as well as the impact of the war and the influx of refugees on households and businesses. Statistics also consider the decrease in purchasing power due to slower wage growth and the decline in gross added value of Polish industry. Ukrainian citizens actively contribute to Poland's economic growth, with their contribution to GDP growth estimated at 2.7%.
