Reform UK Removes Crypto Sponsors Amid Investigation

Reform UK has removed crypto firms from its conference sponsor list ahead of its annual conference in Birmingham next week. This decision follows British police's announcement of a 1.4 million dollar Bitcoin forfeiture. The party, led by Nigel Farage, is now focusing on selling sponsorships to diplomats and manufacturers instead. Last year, digital payments firm Zebec was a key sponsor, but no crypto companies are listed this year. Perks such as free tickets and access to senior figures have also been cut. This change comes as a parliamentary investigation examines whether Farage should have declared 5 million pounds from Christopher Harborne, a Thailand-based crypto investor. Farage's crypto lobbying has faced scrutiny this year. Despite holding only eight of 650 Commons seats, polls suggest Reform UK is in contention for the 2029 elections. Honorary treasurer Nick Candy is promoting foreign guests, including envoys from India, Italy, Poland, the UAE, and the US. However, some renewable energy executives are hesitant to attend, fearing they may legitimize the party. On its first business day, the conference sold over 600 tickets, attracting companies like JCB, TikTok, and Heathrow. While the party has not announced any policy changes regarding digital assets, the focus on sponsors and perks indicates a shift in strategy rather than a complete abandonment of crypto. In a separate incident, Avon and Somerset Police recovered 20.21 BTC and other assets worth 1,032,487.86 pounds, linked to darknet marketplaces from 2016 to 2019. This is the largest crypto recovery since the introduction of wallet freezing orders in April 2024.
