Storage Labs Files for Chapter 11, Considers Equity Participation for STORJ Holders
Storage Labs has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection due to debt restructuring issues. The company is exploring ways to offer STORJ token holders an opportunity to participate in equity in the new company while continuing network operations. On the 13th, Storage Labs announced that it voluntarily filed for Chapter 11 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of West Virginia. Normal business operations and customer service will continue under court supervision during the restructuring process. Storage Labs explained that a significant portion of its current debt stems from previous strategies and emphasized that growth alone would not resolve the issues. The network is operating normally, and the utility of the STORJ token remains unchanged. The method for distributing shares of the restructured company to token holders has not yet been disclosed. The market reacted calmly, with STORJ trading at $0.072 immediately after the announcement. Storage Labs is one of the early decentralized infrastructure projects that began in 2014, and this Chapter 11 filing could be an unusual case where utility token holders can participate in the ownership structure of the company. This filing comes amid a restructuring trend in the crypto industry, and the outcome for Storage Labs may impact other infrastructure projects.
