Taiwan conducted the Han Guang 42 exercise from August 5 to 14, inspecting military forces, civilian factories, businesses, local governments, and community responses. This exercise was based on the premise of a potential Chinese attack and included communication networks, production facilities, and maritime supply lines. The training consisted of command post exercises, mobile supply operations, counter-landing drills, deep defense, and verification of societal defense resilience. The Ministry of National Defense of Taiwan checked the cooperation between the central government and civil-military partnerships, logistics sustainability, and the protection of maritime supply lines, confirming the functionality of local governments, factories, and communication networks. Weapon production facilities were also included in the training, with the transfer and evacuation drills of the Armaments Bureau's Factory 202 and private defense industry production lines being conducted. In the communication network degradation training, simulations of mobile communication network disruptions were carried out for 30 minutes across 14 local governments, resulting in mobile internet speeds dropping to 256Kbps in Taipei and surrounding areas. The Ministry of Economic Affairs of Taiwan explained that the semiconductor industry is among the world's leaders, emphasizing that semiconductor production is a complex industry requiring simultaneous operation of power, water, communication, logistics, ports, and road networks. This exercise revealed vulnerabilities in the supply chain, and the results will be reflected in future defense plans.
