TradFi Perpetual Trading Volume Reaches $53 Billion on August Weekends, Nearly 12-Fold Increase This Year
In August, the total market capitalization of the cryptocurrency market rose by 17.6% to $2.7 trillion, primarily driven by ETF inflows and interest rate trading. Whether the market trend can continue will depend on whether spot and ETF demand can withstand the pressure of tightening liquidity. The report indicates that BTC rose by 24.8% in the past seven days, marking an extreme market condition that falls within the top 1% of weekly gains since 2020. Historically, after the previous seven occurrences of similar gains, BTC has seen an increase one month later in all cases, with six instances still rising two months later, averaging a 18.3% increase over two months. In terms of capital structure, the proportion of cryptocurrency assets held by stock asset holders increased from 64% to 72%, while the allocation to stablecoins decreased by 22%. The share of traditional finance perpetual contract trading volume dropped from 40% to 20%. Additionally, the weekend TradFi perpetual contract trading volume surged to $53 billion in August, nearly a 12-fold increase since the beginning of the year, indicating that a 24/7 cross-asset trading demand is forming an independent market.
