Trump Patiently Navigates Iran Stalemate, Focuses on Strait Navigation
U.S. officials say Trump is expected to weather the current diplomatic stalemate, especially with gasoline prices remaining at current levels. White House officials stated that the U.S. has achieved all its military objectives against Iran, and Trump’s focus is on ensuring the smooth transportation through the Strait of Hormuz. If Iran further attacks vessels, the U.S. will retain military options. Regarding nuclear issues, officials mentioned that Trump privately told senior aides that last year the U.S. military destroyed three major Iranian nuclear facilities, and Iran may not be able to restart its nuclear activities during his tenure. In recent meetings, Trump stated that if Iran attempts to rebuild nuclear facilities or secretly manufacture nuclear weapons, U.S. intelligence agencies will detect it in a timely manner, and the threat of further strikes will become a lasting deterrent. Officials pointed out that if the U.S. can control Iran's nuclear program and the Strait is reopened, Trump is more likely to indefinitely extend the current ceasefire. If Iran fully reopens the Strait, Trump is expected to lift the military blockade on Iranian ports.
