Trump: Will Announce New BLS Head in the Next Three to Four Days
BlockBeats News, August 4th, U.S. President Trump: Will announce a new head of the Bureau of Labor Statistics in the next three to four days.
Trump on Friday ordered the dismissal of the head of the Bureau of Labor Statistics (the non-farm payroll data release agency), claiming without evidence that the disappointing employment data was "manipulated." The Bureau later confirmed that Director Erika McEntarfer had been dismissed, with her deputy William Wiatrowski serving as acting director. The July Employment Report released earlier on Friday showed a mere addition of 73,000 jobs last month. The Bureau of Labor Statistics also announced a significant revision of data, indicating that the number of employed persons was 258,000 less than previously believed. This is the second largest downward revision on record, only surpassed by revisions during the pandemic.
