UAE Develops Alternative Energy Export Routes to Address US-Iran Conflict
Anwar Gargash, an advisor to the President of the UAE, stated that the UAE is actively developing alternative routes for energy exports and trade to ensure that its core economic interests are not affected by the conflict between the United States and Iran. He emphasized that energy exports will not be used as hostages, and trade and economic activities will not be subject to external pressures. Gargash pointed out that freedom of navigation is a non-negotiable principle, and any long-term solution must establish a reliable security assurance mechanism to prevent Iran from attacking Gulf countries again. In the context of the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz and attacks on tankers, the UAE and Qatar have called for Gulf countries to enhance their security capabilities. A spokesperson for the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that while the strategic partnership with the United States is important, Gulf countries need to achieve greater self-sufficiency in the security field. Gargash believes that relations between the UAE and Iran are likely to be restored, but rebuilding political trust may take decades, and Gulf countries cannot assume that external allies will always prioritize their security.
