Ukraine Risks Receiving IMF Tranche of $1.66 Billion
Ukraine's receipt of the next tranche from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) amounting to $1.66 billion is at risk. People's Deputy Roksolana Pidlasa reported that during a meeting with the IMF mission in Kyiv, the main topic of discussion was the lack of sufficient progress in adopting necessary legislation. To receive the tranche, it is essential to sign the bill on the taxation of digital platforms; however, its signing is complicated by amendments regarding PEPs, which jeopardizes funding from the European Union. Additionally, it is necessary to adopt bill 15112-d and amendments to the law on the independence of the National Commission for State Regulation of Energy and Public Utilities (NERC), as well as appoint new members of the Accounting Chamber. Pidlasa emphasized that the government must submit three draft laws to parliament, while other structural benchmarks depend on the Cabinet's decisions. She highlighted that receiving the next IMF tranche is not only linked to the $1.66 billion but also to the fulfillment of the cooperation program with the IMF, which is a condition for assistance from the European Union. Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky criticized the Verkhovna Rada for not supporting three draft laws that could open up more than $4 billion in international support for Ukraine.
