Stablecoins are increasingly being used for everyday spending through card transactions.
Crypto payment cards are no longer a novelty; the total monthly spending in this sector has surpassed $750 million. These crypto payment cards allow users to make payments directly using cryptocurrencies at any merchant that supports traditional card networks, both online and offline. In the backend of the transaction, the crypto assets paid by users (the vast majority of which are stablecoins) are converted into local fiat currency at the moment of checkout; for the receiving merchants, the funds received are just regular card payments, with no awareness of the underlying crypto assets used.
Users of crypto payment cards are not required to have traditional bank accounts. Different products operate under varying models: some require users to deposit stablecoins with the card issuer, while others allow users to hold their assets directly on-chain through self-custody wallets. Crypto payment cards effectively open up access to USD account services for users worldwide, while also providing a convenient payment solution for those holding stablecoins.
Monthly Transaction Volume Trend of Crypto Payment Cards
According to on-chain behavioral data tracked by Paymentscan, in July 2026, the total monthly transaction volume of crypto payment cards reached $759 million. Compared to $306 million in the same month last year, the overall scale has approximately increased by 2.5 times. Looking back to October 2023, when statistics were first recorded, the entire sector's monthly transaction volume was less than $1 million. (Note: The leading transaction volume belongs to RedotPay, whose consumption data is disclosed by the issuer and not derived from on-chain data scraping.)
The number of transactions made using crypto payment cards has shown a growth trend consistent with the increase in transaction amounts. In July 2026, nearly 9 million actual transactions were completed using crypto payment cards, compared to about 5.2 million transactions in the same month last year. This means the average transaction amount per card swipe is approximately $86.
Monthly Transaction Count Trend of Crypto Payment Cards
In early 2024, the spending volume of crypto payment cards was highly concentrated on a single public chain: Gnosis. The well-known product Gnosis Pay is built on this chain and is the first Visa co-branded payment card that can directly connect to self-custody wallets. As more crypto payment card products are launched in the market, the public chains used for card settlements have become more diverse.
Paymentscan statistics show that as of July, the Optimism chain accounted for about 29% of the crypto payment card spending volume; the Solana and Base chains each held 19% of the share; the previously dominant Gnosis chain's share has dropped to just 2%.
Proportion of Crypto Payment Card Spending Volume by Different Chains
Stablecoins issued against the euro were once the absolute mainstay of the crypto card spending market. In early 2024, the EURe euro stablecoin accounted for 88% of all crypto payment card transaction volume, with the majority of transactions occurring on the Gnosis chain. However, by July of this year, EURe's market share had fallen to 2%.
Market dominance has shifted to USD-based stablecoins. USDC accounted for 58% of crypto card spending volume, while USDT reached a share of 26%; compared to the same period last year, these figures were 48% and 7%, respectively. Nowadays, the vast majority of spending behaviors in the context of crypto payment cards are completed using digital USD stablecoins.
Proportion of Crypto Payment Card Spending Volume by Different Stablecoins
When compared to traditional card networks, crypto payment cards still represent a relatively small market, as traditional card networks process transaction volumes in the trillions of dollars each month.
However, the entire sector shows strong growth momentum. Stablecoins continue to penetrate the global financial system, and crypto payment cards leverage the already established mainstream card network infrastructure for practical use. The various crypto payment card products covered in this statistics are almost entirely reliant on Visa's network system for operation.

Since the GENIUS Act, the crypto industry has experienced a rapid development phase, with crypto payment cards being an important part of this growth.
