Bercy Plans to Extend the Surcharge on Large Companies
The exceptional contribution on the profits of large companies, established for the 2025 budget, could be extended for a third time. Bercy is exploring this possibility as part of the 2027 finance bill. The surcharge affects approximately 300 companies with a turnover exceeding 1.5 billion euros and is expected to generate 7.3 billion euros this year. The corporate tax rate increases from 25% to 30.15% for companies with a turnover between 1.5 and 3 billion euros, and reaches 41.2% beyond that. This measure is in addition to a freeze on credits decided in July to meet deficit targets. Patrick Martin, president of Medef, expressed concerns about the credibility of the state in fiscal matters, emphasizing that extending a temporary surcharge could harm France's image among foreign investors. The government, while advocating for fiscal stability, may consider that renewing an existing tax does not constitute a tax increase. The market's reaction to this fiscal uncertainty will be closely monitored in the coming months.
