DuckDuckGo's Normal F***ing Sunglasses Sell Out in Under a Week
DuckDuckGo's Normal F***ing Sunglasses sold out in under a week after launching on July 30 at 35 dollars. The sunglasses, produced in collaboration with San Diego brand Knockaround, emphasize the absence of technology, featuring no cameras, microphones, AI, or electronics. The product page now indicates that pre-orders for a second batch are open. The sunglasses are built on Knockaround's Paso Robles frame, equipped with polarized lenses, UV400 protection, and FDA-compliant impact resistance. DuckDuckGo's marketing highlights the glasses' infinite charge life and zero surveillance risk, contrasting them with tech giants' smart glasses. The launch drew attention to privacy concerns associated with devices like Meta's Ray-Ban glasses, which have faced backlash for unethical use cases. DuckDuckGo has positioned itself against AI in the tech industry, with a significant majority of users preferring no AI results in searches. Traffic to its no-AI search page has tripled since Google's AI-focused search update in May, leading to the release of No-AI extensions for Chrome and Firefox.
