Gaon Electric Wire Supplies $200 Million Bus Ducts to U.S. AI Center
Gaon Electric Wire will supply bus ducts worth 200 billion won for a U.S. AI cloud data center project. This contract, through its U.S. subsidiary LSCUS, will see the phased delivery of materials by 2027. With this agreement, LSCUS has expanded its customer base to include AI cloud service providers, following global big tech and generative AI companies. Bus ducts are distribution facilities that divide large amounts of power to internal equipment and server devices, making stable power distribution crucial for data centers. AI data centers are high power density facilities, where the simultaneous operation of GPUs, servers, and cooling equipment increases the demand for power infrastructure. Gaon Electric Wire is also in discussions for additional projects that could amount to 2-3 times the volume of this contract, although details about the counterpart and the amount have not been disclosed. This supply marks a case where the expansion of AI data centers has led to overseas supply volumes for domestic power equipment companies, as power facilities are considered a key condition for AI infrastructure investment. Gaon Electric Wire has a portfolio that includes both cables and bus ducts, and the LS group operates businesses across the power infrastructure value chain. Jeong Hyun, CEO of Gaon Electric Wire, emphasized the growing importance of distribution infrastructure due to the large-scale and high-density nature of AI data centers, stating that they will strengthen their efforts in the North American AI data center market.
