OpenAI Will Not Go Public in 2026 Due to AI Safety Concerns
OpenAI will not go public in 2026 due to concerns about artificial intelligence safety. CEO Sam Altman announced this in an interview where he discussed the risks of AI development and the need for international regulation. The company had previously filed an S-1 application with the SEC for an IPO, but did not disclose specific timelines or other details. Altman confirmed that the IPO will not take place in 2026, stating that going public is not urgent and depends on the readiness of the business and society for the technology. He also expressed a willingness to halt the development of models if necessary for the safety of humanity. Altman hinted at a possible agreement with other companies to slow down model development to ensure safety. Some experts, such as Dr. Eli David, criticized OpenAI's approach, believing that the delay of the IPO may be related to financial issues.
