South Korean chipmaker SK Hynix has announced a share buyback and cancellation program worth 40 trillion won ($28.61 billion). The company plans to allocate more than 50% of its free cash flow for the period from 2025 to 2027 to shareholder payouts. This decision was made after the company's shares fell nearly 10% in trading on Wednesday. The buyback program will be implemented from August 20 to November 19, 2026, during which up to 24 million shares will be repurchased and canceled. The updated policy aims to increase capital returns through regular buybacks, share cancellations, and dividend payments. SK Hynix's net cash at the end of the second quarter was approximately 69 trillion won, allowing for the buyback without harming operational activities. The company is also working on balancing investments and payouts while continuing to expand its factories in South Korea to meet the demand for high-bandwidth memory.
