Stacks Deposits Reach $437 Million, Reassessing Bitcoin-Based Security Model
Stacks (STX) emphasizes a trading structure settled in Bitcoin (BTC), highlighting the nature of the Bitcoin-based smart contract network. Following the Nakamoto upgrade, Bitcoin finality is positioned as the core of the security model, and the official Stacks documentation explains that transactions reading Bitcoin's state may be influenced by Bitcoin forks. The Nakamoto upgrade was activated in October 2024, reducing block time from approximately 10 minutes to about 5 seconds. Currently, according to the Stacks security page, over $437 million in Bitcoin is locked in sBTC, and moving sBTC requires the consent of 70% of signers. Stacks Labs announced the public testnet release of PoX-5 on July 23, 2026. According to reports, the cumulative number of active wallets has reached 1,601,594, with 110,000 new wallets created, and the cumulative transaction volume of BitFlow has surpassed $5 billion. The community continues to discuss the impact of the finality reference point and Bitcoin restructuring on Stacks transactions. This explanation of the security model connects Bitcoin settlement, fast blocks, and sBTC, and attention should be paid to whether the future scale of sBTC deposits and DeFi trading metrics lead to actual usage of Bitcoin-based applications.
