UEFA Considers Suing FIFA Over Infantino's Privatization Plan

UEFA is considering legal action against FIFA following Gianni Infantino's announcement regarding the FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE), which aims to sell World Cup rights to private investors. The proposal, which included a one-time payment of $20 million to the 211 member federations, was met with widespread rejection, particularly from UEFA, which threatened to withdraw its teams from FIFA competitions. Infantino canceled the project after pressure from UEFA and other confederations. UEFA has requested the preservation of documents and communications from 18 FIFA executives, warning that the destruction of these could be interpreted as evidence tampering. Additionally, UEFA has questioned Infantino's continued position within FIFA, noting that he has lost the trust of a significant portion of the global football community. UEFA's lawyers have indicated that they are considering legal actions, arbitration, and regulatory complaints related to the FFE plan. The situation has drastically changed for Infantino, who now faces opposition in the March elections, where he seeks a fourth term until 2031.
